• CEE’s Know Your Educational Rights project helped public school parents in Manhattan and Brooklyn become empowered advocates and school-level researchers for their children’s educational rights.
• Through Educational Equity ACTion!, a partnership with Epic Theatre Ensemble, talented New York City public high school students wrote and widely performed the informative and transformative play 10467, about the challenges faced in school due to educational inequities.
• We began a new research and public engagement project to improve schools’ ability to prepare students for civic participation.
• Our statewide Safeguarding Sound Basic Education task force comprising New York’s leading education, advocacy, and parent groups, developed new policy recommendations to strengthen and protect students’ educational rights under New York State law.
• The new statewide lawsuit for fair funding for all New York students, New Yorkers for Students’ Educational Rights (NYSER) v. State of New York (being litigated by CEE executive director Michael Rebell in his capacity as pro bono attorney), and based on foundational research by CEE, is making its way through the justice system.
• As part of a Teachers College research team, we published a new report and embarked on case studies of “collective impact” initiatives (cross-sector collaborations for improving educational outcomes).
